— Philip Roth
Probably one of the most beautiful quotes I’ve ever read. However, it does make for a very strong and convincing argument that opposes my own thoughts regarding ‘this terribly significant business of other people‘ and reality. I’m fairly convinced that my reality is merely my perception of it. But what this quote is saying is that that is ‘really a dazzling illusion empty of all perception’ and ‘misperception.’ Because people are more complex and difficult from what is perceived. People have so many interior workings and invisible aims that never even glimpse the surface. But it would be fun to make like the lonely writers and hide away somewhere perceiving my deluded perceptions. Brains in vats and all that.
