Illamasqua Swatches

Illamasqua definitely proved amazing after trying quite a few of their products! A few products were more standout than others, but on the overall the brand is worth checking out if you’re willing to splurge on some cosmetics.

I would recommend their lipsticks and blushers if you’re just going for the best items, while the rest are mostly just nice to have.

Illamasqua: The New Face of Cosmetics

INITIAL REACTIONS: Illamasqua is an up and coming makeup brand that promotes “makeup for the alter ego.” It is undeniably causing a stir for its bold promo ads and astounding creativity in pushing the envelope. The brand is inspired by the dark 1920s club scene. The hype and stir apart from the uniqueness of the brand is the high-quality of its products, that many are claiming Illamasqua a competitor for the very well-known MAC Cosmetics. While this brand is definitely causing an excitment in me, I don’t think Illasmasqua is going to be able to take on MAC simply for the fact that the former is the cheapest of all high-end brands! An eyeshadow from MAC Cosmetics costs $14.50 in the pot or $11 in the pan whereas the eyeshadows from Illamasqua are by heavy contrast, $20. You can just about get two MAC eyeshadows for the price of one Illamasqua. And the difference in the amount of eyeshadow in their respective pots? MAC – .05, and Illamasqua – .07. The difference is not very much but the cost is drastic.

Despite this, I’m a sucker for makeup… and I have placed an order on Sephora for several Illamasqua products. The brand was originally only available on its own website, and in the UK, but the hype has surpassed its humble beginnings and has finally made it to the U.S. so go crazy ordering! The thing I love about Sephora is that if you don’t like it – you can return it! That definitely makes many of my purchases pain-free (though perhaps I spend more than I should because of it!).

My order looked something like this:

Powder Blusher, $23, .14 oz

Tremble, light warm pink

Panic, cherry red

The price for the blush doesn’t really shock me so much. Many blushes are well into the 20s and even 30s, though with MAC blushes coming in at $18 but for .21 oz. Another monetary blow for the quantity. No colors by MAC, however, strike me as similar just from the swatches on Sephora. I’ll have to compare when I actually receive these.

Nail Varnish, $14, .5 oz

Unnatural, dark blood red

Fern, shimmering bright sky blue

MAC is far from a good example of good-quality nail polish, so I’ll compare it to China Glaze, which is also a bottle with .5 oz and typically between $2.50 to $6 depending on where you get it, and I find the quality most excellent. However, I find these colors to look quite unique and I don’t own any colors like these. I will definitely consider these a high-end treat!

Bronzing Duo, $27, .14 oz

Glint & Burnish, golden tan/golden bronze

The bronzing duo is described as having shimmer, and this worries me! It’s usually preferred to have a matte bronzer but we shall see how it looks! Also, Glint & Burnish is the darker of the two bronzer duos, the lighter one being Glint & Writhe and from videos the light one looks very dark already. We shall see! MAC has bronzers for $21 with .3 oz of product.

Lipstick, $20, .14 oz

Howl, matte terra cotta

It’s true that a great lipstick shade should usually be tried on before purchase but I don’t have that luxury with this brand so I went with a bold lip color that I am very much hoping will look great with my skin tone! And finally here Illamasqua has more lipstick than MAC. A MAC l/s has .1 oz and this one has .14, though MAC charges only $14. As this is a matte shade I will be looking to see how moisturizing this is and whether it will settle into the lines of my lips and bleedability.

Intense Lipgloss, $19, .2 oz

Indulge, neon pink

Oh goodness, what can I say! I’m so tired of glosses that have no pigmentation and only microscopic glitter that no one can see unless they got a little too close and personal. Enter Illamasqua’s Intense Lipglosses! These are extremely pigmented from what I’ve seen so far and I am already in love without every having tried these on.

Sheer Lipgloss, $19, .2 oz

Rouse, vibrant bubble gum pink

I’m very much hoping the sheer in the name of this gloss isn’t too literal. Though I’m very excited to compare the sheer and intense glosses hence why I’m getting one of each. The color I’m getting sounds very pretty. Hopefully these still have a good level of pigmentation.

Powder Eyeshadow, $20, .07 oz

Preen, matte purple

I absolutely love purple shadows, and I was pleasantly surprised that on the Illamasqua website this particular shadow is for sale only to the European public, so it’s nice that it’s available for sale to the U.S. public on Sephora! I am very much hoping to get a lot of pigmentation and good blendability from this! And I know it’s just a “matte purple” very plain and simple – but for the price I’m expecting something great.

Don’t worry, swatches for all the products are forthcoming as soon as my order comes in! VERY EXCITING!! (:

Poker Face (Photo Heavy)

A string of pictures to explain in lesser words more things. None of the photos are photoshopped edited because I haven’t the time to do all that, so sorry if some look too yellow, etc.

The old look vs. my new hair color!

Day after the Saturday Christmas Party. Snow (we ordered it from Union Ice) on front lawn, and then at Aunt Maggie’s house for Midori’s 2nd birthday party (Aunt El, Mom, Me)

Little brother and I. Clearly, he is several inches taller than me! Haha ♥

The outfit and the look~ (Clearly, laundry basket there with clothes I need to hang/fold lol) My eyelashes touch my eyes hahaha I love my eyelashes~ (Hate how in the photo the blouse looks too poofy but it’s actually not bad irl hahaha)

Close-up of my makeup! (: [All new Smashbox makeup] And it lasted all day/night, as seen by the 2am second pic, with hot mess in the background haha.

Today’s makeup. Intense pink and black! Yepp, I’m wearing pink and black today hahaha.

There are lots of Christmas pics with my family but just for privacy I’m only posting self-portraits of Christmas Eve.

I ordered my makeup on Tuesday and it all arrived on Wednesday! It helps that their warehouse is just a few cities away~!! Smashbox is love. (:

As for Christmas, presents I got: white gold earrings, PS3 (I was the ONLY one in the family not to have one), iPod Classic 120GB yay, Moneeey, B&N Gift Card, iTunes Gift Card, and Blu-ray movies for my PS3 haaay~! (:

Winter Wonderland

No winter has ever been better! There have been no family fights and for the most part everything is going well. That means that I’ve also just been enjoying life without much time to get online or even blog! It’s hard to blog when just everything is going so well! My mood is pretty stable and it’s a consistent happy. (:

NOTE: There will be a lot of girly banter in this post. Do not proceed unless you like fashion/girly stuff. Skip to the second half, if you don’t like that sort of stuff.

On Saturday I dyed my hair again! I let my natural hair color grow out for about three months and finally I decided I needed some color in my hair again. It’s a really pretty light golden brown that reminds me of milk chocolate with perhaps some red undertones.

Between yesterday and today I spent over $300 on makeup. Now, I know that sounds crazy… but brushes are ridiculously expensive. I got the MAC 109 brush, which was $34! It’s a contouring brush, but I’m using it to apply my Mac Studio Fix Fluid foundation for now until I get another bigger fluffier brush. I got a ton of products from Smashbox! I absolutely love their makeup and I cannot wait to try the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. The primer goes under your foundation. Also, I went to Sephora and purchased Urban Decay Potion Primer, which is used on the eyes as a primer to eyeshadow. I was using a cream-based base from MAC as my primer before and I really liked it but it was also a little too shiny. Today is my first time using the UDPP and so far it’s working great I think. None of my makeup has creased, and the actual product came on really nice and smooth. Oh yes… and I also bought the Coastal Scents 88 Matte Palette. The palette comes with 88 different color eyeshadows! And it’s only $21! That’s such a deal! The Coastal Scents and Smashbox products I ordered so I just have to wait for them to come in the mail. (: Smashbox has a TON of free gifts if you order online so it’s really such a good deal, and their shipping is totally free!

As I put my makeup on today I realized I have about 3 or 4 MAC eyeshadows I’ve never used in my possession. I’ll work on wearing them more often, or at least trying out the colors. But I couldn’t today because my clothes is sorta bright today.

* * *

Saturday we had our grand ol’ Christmas party at the new house. We had about 60 guests in attendance I think. I invited Sandy, Gloria, Anna, Piale, David, Eric, Tim, Elizabeth, Gabriel, Jean, Pedro, and Vy. All of us were dancing all night long!! My high heels were thankfully surprisingly very comfortable. David and Piale definitely got drunk lol… it was quite amusing. Either way we ALL got down and just danced nonstop. Ahhhh it was so much more fun with my friends there. Otherwise I would have been the only one in my age range and that always sucks.

There was amazing catering from Panama Joe’s and a great bartender. I get so excited when we get their catering for all our parties because I am madly in love with the chimichanga appetizers. And the chicken and scalloped potatoes are just divine~ Seriously! Then we ordered fruit tarts and creme brulee from Tropicana Bakery & Cuban Cafe. Some people were kind enough to bring pies, too! And there was also a lot of chocolate. Brb, dying!! AHH, just remembering all the good food is kind of exciting. Lol… hahaha that is just too funny.

Anyway, we had a raffle, too. Every adult guest received one ticket to start off with, and then the more you danced the more tickets you got. We gave away some gift cards, a basket of some hardcore alcohol, an iPod Nano, Nikon Coolpix S60 (the touch screen digital camera), a Sony Blu-ray player, and last but not least a 40″ HDTV! I’m so happy because David won the Nikon digi-cam! We had some really amazing gifts for the give-away and I think everyone was pretty happy even if they didn’t win.

We also had an elf and a Santa Clause. All the children in attendance got presents from Santa Clause. (Ok so actually I picked all the presents for all the kiddies, but it was nice and cute~) Then my family surprised my Aunt El and snuck a present in Santa’s bag for her. It was a beautiful amethyst yellow gold ring.

Oh! also, I’d like to note that my aunt ordered snow to be delivered and placed on our front lawn. Lmao… so for a few days now we’ve had snow covering all our grass on the front lawn. Talk about extreme, and super funnnn! Hahaha

I cannot wait for Christmas in a few days!!! (:

(In sadder news, my little brother is anorexic. And we found out yesterday he’s also been throwing up the little that he did eat. So now he’s going to have a personal cook come over every day starting Friday to make sure that he eats because my mom works 12 hours a day at Kaiser Permanente so she can’t really cook for him or even check that he eats. He’s going to have many doctor appointments now, to ensure he gets back to a healthy weight and isn’t sick anymore. I won’t really elaborate on any personal thoughts.)
